This is the image database of the Birds of Sri Lanka compiled by the Ceylon Bird Club. These images strive to show the Sri Lankan bird species in all aspects of their plumage patterns: male and female, adult and juvenile, breeding and non breeding and other variations and aberrations in order to facilitate identification and for research purposes.
The comments on taxonomy & status are those by Rasmussen & Anderton in ‘The Birds of South Asia’ (2005) and subsequent publications. The red data status pertains to Sri Lankan bird populations and their status in Sri Lanka as given in the IUCN ‘2007 Red list of threatened Fauna and Flora of Sri Lanka’ .
The images have been contributed by members of the club free of charge and the Ceylon Bird club is immensely grateful to them for this. The photographers retain the sole copyright for these images and their explicit permission is required to use these for any purpose by others. In order to retain the high standards of the data base the photographers have contributed some of their best images for the obtaining of which they have sacrificed much time and effort. Therefore please respect their wishes and do not use the images for any purpose without their permission.
